Can’t Connect Because of Your Firewall

*******************

WEB CHAT CLIENT

*******************

You can connect to the network using a Java client that we have supplied.  This can be found at http://www.jaundies.com/irc/irc.html .  If you see a security window pop, just say yes and you should have no probs.  You MUST have Java installed.  If you do not have Java installed you can get it at http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/download.jsp .

Our Java client allows users to be in more than one channel at a time and has an attractive user interface.

After connecting change your name to whatever you are using, identify, etc…  Then double click on the “Channels” button and a list of the channels on the server will appear.  Double click the channel you wish to join and you are there.  If you know the channel(s) already, type /join #roomname.

It’s as simple as that.

XCHAT USERS:

***************

For those of you that do not wish to use mIRC and would like to try out another client I personally suggest X-Chat. The nickserv and chanserv commands are the same as mIRC.

After downloading X-Chat from http://xchat.org follow these simple steps to get set up.

1) Start X-Chat up.

2) Check the box that says EDIT MODE

3) Enter YOUR chat name and two variations and other info (do not worry about join command) and your password in the "Server Password" area if your name is registered. If not, after you register it enter it here. Be smart and choose something other than your Mafia.org password and use a mix of at least 8 upper and lower case letters, numbers, and some symbols.

4) In the left hand area marked Networks click add

5) Scroll down to the bottom of the network list and slowly select the New Network box, type in Jaundies

5) To the right there is an area called servers, click ADD

6) Select new server, type in irc.jaundies.com

7) Click connect

8) Type in /join #youroomofchoice

If you would like to automatically join your channels upon log on enter these channels in the "Join Channels" area in the #roomname1, #roomname2, #roomname3 (#mafia, #Trivia) format. No spaces between the commas and channel names.

To change your personal settings you click on "Settings" and go to preferences. This is where you can change your colours and default away, part, and quit messages.

How To Identify Upon Log-in:

**********************************

1) Type /MSG nickserv identify insert your password here
2) Hit enter

You can set you chosen client to do this automatically up log on.   For mIRC the easiest way I have found is to click on enter your password when you enter the server info. Yes it does work I just tried it myself.   For X-Chat it's basically the same, enter it when you do your server info.

Common Commands Used on IRC

**********************************

/nick <newnickhere> - Changes your nickname.

/msg <name here> <text here> - Sends a private message to the user of your choice.

/query <name> - Opens up a private message window with a user.

/notice <name> <text> - Sends a message to a user in the same channel as you.  Does not appear in a separate window.

/me <text> - Allows you to do an “action”, example “/me is hungry” would show up in chat as “tiggy is hungry”.

/whois <name> - Shows you information about the person you are whoising.

/away <reason> - If you have an away script built into your client type this when you are away.  It will give users who private message you a message stating you are away from the computer.

/back – Removes your away message.

/ignore <name> - If someone is getting annoying you can stop receiving their messages by typing this command.

/join #roomname – Use this command to join a channel of your choice.

/quit <message> – Disconnects you from IRC, you don’t have to put in a message, but you can.

/part <message> - Exits you from the channel you type it in, not necessary to put a message.

/invite <name> - Invites someone into the channel.

/chanserv aop #room add/del name – Adds or deletes a person from the Auto-Op list.

/chanserv hop #room add/del name – Adds or deletes a person from the Auto-Hop list.

/chanserv vop #room add/del name – Adds or deletes a person from the Auto-Voice list.

/chanserv akick #room add/del name – Adds or deletes a person from the Auto-Kick list.

Those are the basic commands, more can be found on sites like http://www.irchelp.org/ . When in doubt type /chanserv help for channel commands, /nickserv help for nickserv commands such as group and register, /botserv help for any commands needed to operate your channel bot.  You can also find someone to help you in #help most of the time.

NOTES:

********

For your own safety I do not suggest auto-accepting DCC connections, as it is easy to send malicious files to someone this way.

Register your name to cut down the chances of someone else using it in an attempt to "be" you.

And finally, be careful of scripts you download for both mIRC and X-Chat, as you never know if there is a virus included.

3) Click on Configure.
4) Click on the Advanced tab.
5) Click on General Rules.
6) Click on Add.

9) Select Only Computers Listed at the Site Below and click Add.
10) Select Individually and enter irc.jaundies.com, click Ok then Next.
11) Select TCP and UDP, select All Type of Communication, click Next.
12) Click Next, you don't need to log this.
13) Name the rule Jaundies IRC and click Next.
14) Click Finish.
15) Click Ok.
16) Click Ok.
17) Close the Norton Firewall window.
18) Try connecting.

If you still cannot connect reopen the firewall, double click Detection and unblock the IRC server address there.

For other walls just do whatever you have to do to add a rule and do it in a similar fashion. The reason you have to do this is due to lamers flooding our server with bots from proxy IP's we have had to start scanning for open Proxy ports upon log on.
